The British High Commission in Singapore and the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) are pleased to invite public to join the “UK-Thailand: Partners in Science” program and welcome Prof. John Beddington, the Advisor to British Prime Minister to Thailand.
Prof Beddington will be delivering a public lecture on “Global Challenges: The Perfect Storm - The Future of Food, Energy and Water Security” at the NSTDA, Thailand Science Park (next to Thammasart Rangsit campus), Pathumthani on September 30, 2009 at 10.00-11.30 hrs. FREE!
Prof Beddington predicts that the demand for food and energy will jump 50 per cent by 2030 and for fresh water by 30 per cent, as the global population tops 8.3 billion. Prof Beddington says food, energy and water shortages will create war, unrest and mass migration, and that a major technological push is needed to develop renewable energy supplies, boost crop yields and better utilise existing water supplies to avert this “perfect storm”. At the public lecture Prof Beddington will discuss the role of science and technology in confronting this looming crisis.
